Proposal would bring 12-home residential area near former Jeffboat site | News

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) – New life is coming to a gated section of Jeffersonville.

Plans are underway to turn a parking lot that once served Jeffboat employees into a residential area. Howard Yard is one of the first redevelopment projects tied to the Jeffboat site since the barge maker closed in 2018.

Millennium Builders is planning a neighborhood with 12 modern three-story homes in a space that was once a parking lot. The family-owned boutique construction company is behind several successful developments in southern Indiana.

Construction is expected to begin next winter. The company hopes the project will spur more growth and development in Jeffersonville, which the mayor of Jeffersonville agrees with.

Mayor Mike Moore said the project is a boost for the former Jeffboat site.

“The possibilities of what we can do with this site in the future, I’m really excited about the conversations we’ve had with the current owners,” Moore said. “But to see Millennium Builders coming out there with a plan to create some really great single-family homes is great. You know, we’re still growing and we’re growing in a positive way.”

As for the 65-acre Jeffboat property across the street along the river, Moore said he hopes to see a mixed-use development there one day. He said he also sees an opportunity to connect the Ohio River Greenway in the future.
