New business space at the Pool to create 40 high-tech jobs

Work has started on a new commercial space in Cornwall which will see the creation of 40 new jobs.

Chy Tevyans or ‘House of Growth’ in Cornwall is the latest Cornwall Council led development to be built in Pool.

Council bosses said the new business center would unlock new growth in the county by providing the infrastructure growing businesses need, especially in the booming tech sector.

Glenn Caplin, Managing Director of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, welcomed the announcement, saying: “The technology sector is growing in the pool area and providing more connected office space. through high-quality fiber optics, we support the continued growth of this important cluster.

“I can’t wait to see the first companies move next year.”

Co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, Chy Tevyans will be a three-storey building comprising twelve new office suites, ranging from 86 to 122 m2, offering a total of 1512 m2 of flexible workspace, equipped with ultra-fast fiber to the site. .

Its central location, next to the Pool Innovation Center, offers excellent road and public transport links.

The building will benefit from the same high-quality environmental standard as other recent workspaces commissioned by the Cornwall Council, such as the Aerohub Business Park Sector 2 and Enterprise Space for Advanced Manufacturing, and will be built to the BREEAM standard. “Excellent”.

The Cornwall Council led project is being built by Kier Construction Ltd with Mace Group Ltd acting as project managers. It is funded by a £ 2.3million investment from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), complemented by £ 1.9million from the Cornwall Council.

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2020, with the first tenants to follow in early 2021.

The development will enhance the North Trevenson site, which currently includes the residential development of Mellior Park, Cornwall College and the Pool Innovation Center.

It is estimated that once the building is fully occupied, the Chy Tevyans project will support the creation of 40 new jobs in the region and contribute £ 1.5 million to the local economy.

Bob Egerton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder of the Cornish Council for Culture, Economy and Planning, said: “This new development in a strategic location close to the A30 will provide much needed high quality accommodation for businesses that seek to develop.

“This contributes to Cornwall Council’s strategic objective of increasing high wages and highly skilled local employment.”

Chris Couch, Area Manager for Kier Regional Building, added: “In collaboration with Cornwall Council, Chy Tevyans will provide first class facilities to local businesses.
