Construction of a multi-million pound canalside care home development is underway.

Property investment and development company, Urban Village Group, has started work on its Eleanor Street senior living scheme in Blackburn, which will include 70 en-suite bedrooms and seven self-contained living apartments.

Prime contractor LNC Developments has been appointed to deliver the purpose-built care home on behalf of Urban Village Healthcare to the waterfront site, which is expected to be completed in early 2024.

The development will comprise four floors, each with its own outdoor terrace enjoying views of the canal and conservation area and the town center beyond. When completed, it will be leased to Bracebridge Care Group for a minimum of 25 years.

Urban Village Group Managing Director Nick Sellman said: “We are very pleased to announce that we have begun work on our Eleanor Street development. We are very grateful to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council for their support.

Samantha Crawley, Chief Operating Officer of Bracebridge Care Group, added: “The care home we are creating in this community combines our specialist care philosophy with the latest technology.

“Providing an enabling environment, supported by the best people in the business, means we create a lived experience that people are proud to be part of.

“In 2024, the doors to our retirement home will open and we look forward to showing residents and families all that we and our development teams at Urban Village Healthcare have created. We know people will be impressed by the design paired with exceptional quality.

“This development is part of our mission to provide exceptional housing for older people in this country and will be a fantastic place for locals to live.

“As people and populations age, the level of disability and dependency increases and has a significant impact on the demand for modern, cutting-edge care services. Urban Village Healthcare is committed to helping meet this demand through Bracebridge Healthcare Group.

The new care home will feature communal areas including a salon, hairdressers and gym, with associated parking and gardens.

The site backs onto the Leeds Liverpool Canal giving the people who live there excellent views and a community feel, with the amenities of the city center within walking distance.
